Trapet’s three Chambertin parcels

The estate is based in Gevrey-Chambertin, and the family has run it for seven generations. Its Chambertin holding is just under two hectares in three parcels and includes some hundred-year-old vines. Chapelle-Chambertin and Latricières-Chambertin are the estate’s other grand crus.

The estate has been certified by Demeter, the biodynamic body, since 2009. Its grand crus are made with 50 to 100 percent whole bunches and up to about 50 percent new oak.

Chambertin among the Gevrey-Chambertin grand crus

The grand cru appellation of Chambertin was created in 1937 and had 13.22 ha in production in 2008. Its base yield is 35 hl/ha. It is one of nine grand cru appellations of Gevrey-Chambertin, alongside Chambertin-Clos de Bèze, Chapelle-Chambertin, Charmes-Chambertin, Griotte-Chambertin, Latricières-Chambertin, Mazis-Chambertin, Mazoyères-Chambertin and Ruchottes-Chambertin. A royal ordinance of King Louis-Philippe in 1847 allowed the village of Gevrey to add the name of Chambertin to its own.

Gevrey-Chambertin lies in the Côte de Nuits in Burgundy, a hillside strip about 20 km long that narrows in places to about 200 m wide. The Côte de Nuits produces mainly red wine from Pinot Noir.
