Les Amoureuses 2013 by Domaine Patrice Rion: contract vines in Chambolle-Musigny
The 2013 Les Amoureuses from Domaine Patrice Rion was not made from vines the Rion family owns. From 2006 to 2015, Patrice Rion farmed the vines of a small Chambolle-Musigny estate, Les Amoureuses among them, under a double contract and bought the grapes. The 2013 falls inside that period. It is a dry red Pinot Noir in a 0.75 L bottle.

The climat: a Premier Cru, not a Grand Cru
Les Amoureuses is a Premier Cru climat of Chambolle-Musigny covering about 5.4 ha, shared by 17 owners. Its soil is rich in limestone with less clay.

From Domaine Daniel Rion to Prémeaux-Prissey: Patrice and Michèle Rion
Patrice and Michèle Rion founded the domaine in 1990. Patrice left Domaine Daniel Rion in 2000 and built his own winery in Prémeaux-Prissey. Their son Maxime joined in 2005. The domaine’s own vineyards are farmed organically today, under Ecocert control.

2013 in the Côte de Nuits and when to open it
A 2013 vintage report records cool, humid weather after 20 June that hampered flowering. It caused coulure and millerandage and cut estimated potential yields by 10–30%. The Côte de Nuits harvest began on 1 October, and red volumes were very small. The Wine Advocate vintage chart rates Côte de Nuits red 2013 at 92 and classes it as early maturing and accessible. That is a rating of the year in the region, not of this bottle.
Our suggested drinking window is 2017–2035, so the wine is within it now.
