Morey-Saint-Denis and its grand crus

Morey-Saint-Denis is one of six communes that hold the 24 grand cru appellations of the Côte de Nuits. Its own grand crus are Clos de la Roche, Clos Saint-Denis, Clos des Lambrays, Clos de Tart and part of Bonnes-Mares. The commune added the name Saint-Denis to its own in 1927.

Cuvée des Alouettes is not one of them. It is classed 1er Cru, one step below grand cru, so it sits beside Clos de la Roche and Clos Saint-Denis in the commune without carrying their appellations. The Côte de Nuits as a whole makes mainly red wine from Pinot Noir, and this bottle follows that pattern. Its vineyards form a strip about 20 km long that narrows in places to about 200 m wide.
