Mash bills B and E in the four recipes
Four Roses uses two mash bills and five proprietary yeast strains. Together they give ten distinct bourbon recipes. Mash bill B is 60% corn, 35% rye and 5% malted barley; mash bill E is 75% corn, 20% rye and 5% malted barley.
In this blend, OBSV uses mash bill B, while OESF, OESV and OESK use mash bill E. The blend therefore has no single mash bill.
The distillery names its ten recipes OBSV, OBSK, OBSO, OBSQ, OBSF, OESV, OESK, OESO, OESQ and OESF. This release draws on four of them, three of which share the E mash bill and the same OES prefix. The oldest component, the 20-year-old OBSV, is also the only one made from mash bill B.
