Vosne-Romanée 2021 on the Robert Parker Wine Advocate vintage chart

Pierre Girardin Vosne-Romanée 2021: from a frost-cut vintage

The 2021 Vosne-Romanée from Pierre Girardin was made in a year when an April spring frost cut yields across the region, followed by heavy rain in June and July. It is a dry red, Pinot Noir from Vosne-Romanée in the Côte de Nuits.

The label carries the plain village name, with no climat. The domaine also makes the named village bottlings Les Hauts Beaumonts and Les Damaudes, which are separate cuvées.

Vosne-Romanée, a Pinot Noir-only appellation

Vosne-Romanée is a village appellation of the Côte de Nuits in Burgundy. Pinot Noir is its only grape variety. The village appellation covers 149.47 ha, of which 56.01 ha is premier cru. The commune holds six of the region’s grand crus. Soils are limestone mixed with clayey marls, and the slopes face east. This bottle is sold under the Appellation d’Origine Protégée classification, and more bottles from the village are listed under Vosne-Romanée, Côte de Nuits.

Pierre-Vincent Girardin’s Meursault domaine, founded 2017

Domaine Pierre Girardin is based in Meursault and was founded in 2017 by Pierre-Vincent Girardin, who made the first vintage at 21. He is the son of Vincent Girardin, whose own domaine the family sold. The domaine started with 4.5 hectares kept from his father’s estate and extends its range through long-term contracts with established growers. Its wines are pressed gently and bottled without fining or filtration, and the reds age in used barrels.
