Ragnaud Sabourin Vintage 1989: a single-vintage Grande Champagne cognac
This cognac was distilled from the 1989 harvest and bottled at the distillery on 3 April 2008, nearly 19 years later. It comes from the Grande Champagne cru of France and carries the Premier Cru de Cognac designation. The bottle holds 0.7 L.

Grande Champagne, the first cru of Cognac
Grande Champagne is the first of the six crus of the Cognac appellation, ranked ahead of Petite Champagne, Borderies, Fins Bois, Bons Bois and Bois Ordinaires. A cognac may carry the name Grande Champagne only if all its eaux-de-vie come from this cru. The name has nothing to do with sparkling Champagne: the cru lies in the Charente, around the small town of Segonzac. Its soils are thin, clayey and chalky over soft Cretaceous chalk.

The Ragnaud-Sabourin house at Ambleville
Ragnaud-Sabourin is a family house at Ambleville, both grower and distiller. Its cognacs come only from the family’s own vineyard, the Domaine de la Voûte, and the house dates its history to 1850. The estate is about 35 hectares planted to 90% Ugni Blanc and 10% Folle Blanche on clay and chalk with a high limestone content.
The spirit is distilled on the lees and aged in Limousin oak in the family’s own cellars. Roughly one third of the production is bottled under the family label; the rest is sold to négociants.
