The 2008 Special Releases bottling
The Brora 25 Year Old was released in 2008 as part of the Diageo Special Releases, at 56.3% ABV in a 700 ml bottle. Diageo, which owns Brora, issued it as a single malt of 25 years bottled at cask strength.

A distillery that closed and reopened
The distillery was founded in 1819 as Clynelish. It took the name Brora in 1968, when a new Clynelish distillery opened. Production stopped in 1983 and the site was mothballed. After a three-year restoration it reopened in 2021, and the first new cask of spirit was reported filled on 19 May 2021. A 25-year-old released in 2008 was distilled in 1983 or earlier, before the closure.
Between May 1969 and July 1973 the distillery made a heavily peated whisky for blending, to cover a shortage of Islay whisky caused by drought. Most of what it produced after 1973 is in a lightly peated Highland style.

Stills and water
The distillery draws its water from the Clynemilton Burn. It has one wash still and one spirit still, each of 13,500 litres.
