Masseto Tenuta dell’Ornellaia 2008 3L
ROBERT PARKER ” The 2008 Masseto is another huge wine. It boasts tons of energy in a tense, inward style I can only describe as implosive, as if the wine is holding back all of its energy. A deep core of black fruit, grilled herbs, licorice and new leather emerges from time to time, but the tannins are still imposing. There is no shortage of pedigree. I fully expect the 2008 to develop into one of the great Massetos. Needless to say, it will be interesting to taste the 2008 in vertical tastings in the future. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2033. The 2009 vintage was not easy at Tenuta dell’Ornellaia because of the scorching hot summer. Readers may want to take a look at my video interview with Axel Heinz for more on the 2009 vintage. “

The large format is also perfect for special events.
Key Features & Benefits
Masseto is crafted entirely from 100% Merlot grapes grown on the famed Masseto hill in Bolgheri, Tuscany. This single-vineyard cru boasts a unique terroir of predominantly clay soils, ideal for producing Merlot of extraordinary depth and concentration. The meticulous production process, overseen by Tenuta dell’Ornellaia’s expert team, includes hand-harvesting, rigorous selection, and fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The 2008 Masseto then undergoes extended aging in French oak barriques, a crucial step that imparts complexity and refined tannins.
The use of a Double Magnum Masseto (3L) bottle further enhances the aging potential, allowing the wine to develop even more gracefully over time. This Tuscan Merlot is a testament to the power and elegance that can be achieved in the Bolgheri region.

Heritage & Collectibility
Since its first vintage in 1986, Masseto has rapidly ascended to become one of the world’s most sought-after wines, a true Bolgheri Super Tuscan icon. Its limited production and consistently high ratings from critics have solidified its status as a blue-chip Investment Wine. The Tenuta dell’Ornellaia Masseto estate is synonymous with quality and prestige, and the 2008 vintage, in particular, is recognized for its exceptional balance and longevity.
This 3L format is exceptionally rare, making it a prized possession for any serious collector. The sheer presence of a Masseto 3L commands attention and signifies a dedication to the finest wines in the world.
Sensory Profile & Usage
The Masseto 2008 3L presents a captivating sensory experience. The nose is a complex tapestry of ripe dark fruits, such as black cherry and plum, interwoven with notes of spice, tobacco, and dark chocolate. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and opulent, with velvety tannins and a remarkable concentration of flavor. The finish is exceptionally long and persistent, leaving a lasting impression of elegance and power.
For optimal enjoyment, decant the wine for at least two hours before serving at a temperature of 18-20°C (64-68°F).
