The Estate
Domaine du Clos de Tart stands as one of Burgundy’s most prestigious monopoles, a 7.53-hectare walled Grand Cru vineyard in Morey-Saint-Denis that has been under single ownership since 1141. Acquired by the Mommessin family in 1932 and now owned by François Pinault’s Artémis Domaines, the estate has upheld centuries of winemaking tradition while embracing modern precision. The vineyard’s unique position on the mid-slope of the Côte de Nuits, combined with meticulous viticulture and masterful winemaking, produces wines of extraordinary depth, longevity, and distinctive character.
Clos de Tart Grand Cru – A Monopole Legend
Clos de Tart occupies a privileged east-facing slope in Morey-Saint-Denis, benefiting from optimal sun exposure and natural drainage. The vineyard’s Jurassic limestone soils, layered with red clay and iron-rich deposits, impart remarkable minerality and structure to the wines.
As a true monopole, Clos de Tart represents the vision of a single proprietor across the entire 7.53 hectares, allowing for unprecedented consistency and quality control. The ancient wall that encircles the vineyard creates a unique microclimate that protects the vines while concentrating flavors.
The terroir expresses itself through wines of incredible aromatic complexity, combining red and black fruits with forest floor notes, spice, and profound minerality—a signature that has made Clos de Tart one of Burgundy’s most sought-after Grand Crus.

The 2010 Vintage
The 2010 vintage is celebrated as one of the finest in Burgundy’s modern history, producing wines of exceptional balance, structure, and longevity. A challenging growing season with a cool summer was rescued by an ideal September, allowing for perfect ripening and concentration.
For Clos de Tart, 2010 produced wines of classical proportions—medium-bodied yet intensely flavored, with vibrant acidity, refined tannins, and crystalline purity. The vintage captures the monopole’s terroir with remarkable precision, showing the mineral backbone and elegant fruit expression that define great Burgundy. Still quite youthful, this wine has decades of evolution ahead.
Tasting Experience
- Visual: Brilliant ruby-garnet with medium depth and a youthful, vibrant rim
- Nose: Refined aromatics of red cherry, raspberry, and cranberry layered with violet, rose petal, and subtle spice. Secondary notes of forest floor, tea leaf, and crushed limestone emerge with air. The wine’s purity and terroir expression are immediately apparent
- Palate: Silky yet structured, with fine-grained tannins and energetic acidity providing excellent backbone. Layers of red fruit, earth, and mineral unfold with precision and elegance. The monopole’s signature limestone minerality dominates the mid-palate, adding freshness and complexity
- Finish: Long, refined finish with persistent minerality, subtle fruit, and integrated tannins. The wine’s breeding and classical structure are evident in the elegant, focused conclusion
Service & Food Pairing
Serve at 16-17°C (61-63°F) in large Burgundy stems. Decant for 1-2 hours to allow the wine to open and express its complexity. This youthful vintage benefits from aeration but remains quite tight and structured.
Exceptional pairings:
- Roasted guinea fowl with autumn truffle and root vegetables
- Venison carpaccio with aged Parmesan and truffle oil
- Wild mushroom consommé with foie gras ravioli
- Duck breast with cherry and port reduction
- Selection of mature Burgundian cheeses including Comté, Langres, and Époisses
Cellaring & Evolution
Still youthful and evolving (ideal drinking 2026-2040). The 2010’s classical structure, vibrant acidity, and pronounced minerality ensure excellent aging potential for 20-30 years. While approachable now, patient collectors will be rewarded with increasing complexity and tertiary development. Store in a cool, dark cellar at 12-14°C with 70% humidity.
Collector’s Note: Clos de Tart is one of only five monopole Grand Crus in Burgundy, making it exceptionally rare in the world of fine wine. The 2010 vintage represents the classical Burgundian style at its finest and is particularly sought-after for long-term cellaring. This is a wine for the patient collector who appreciates the slow, graceful evolution that defines great Burgundy.
