Domaine Cécile Tremblay Chapelle-Chambertin 2006
The Estate
Domaine Cécile Tremblay represents the new generation of Burgundian excellence. Taking over her family’s vines in Morey-Saint-Denis in 2003, Cécile has quickly established herself as one of the region’s finest winemakers. With meticulous organic viticulture, minimal intervention in the cellar, and an unwavering focus on terroir expression, she produces wines of extraordinary purity and elegance. Her holdings include precious parcels in some of Burgundy’s most prestigious appellations, all farmed with exceptional care and converted to biodynamic practices. Production is tiny, making her wines among the most sought-after in all of Burgundy.
Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru – Elegance in Gevrey
Chapelle-Chambertin is one of the eight Grand Crus of Gevrey-Chambertin, located just north of the legendary Chambertin itself. The vineyard’s name derives from the Notre-Dame de Bèze chapel that once stood here. The terroir combines classic Gevrey limestone and red clay soils with excellent east-facing exposure.
Compared to its powerful neighbors, Chapelle-Chambertin is known for producing wines of particular refinement and finesse, with silky tannins, intense aromatics, and a distinctive mineral spine. The shallow topsoil over limestone bedrock forces the vines to dig deep, concentrating flavors and imparting profound minerality.
In Cécile Tremblay’s hands, Chapelle-Chambertin achieves remarkable purity and elegance, expressing both the Grand Cru’s inherent nobility and her own philosophy of minimal intervention and terroir transparency.

The 2006 Vintage
The 2006 vintage in Burgundy produced wines of classical proportions—elegant, structured, and built for the long haul. A cool growing season with ideal harvest conditions resulted in wines with vibrant acidity, refined tannins, and excellent aging potential.
For Cécile Tremblay, 2006 was an early vintage in her tenure (just her fourth harvest), yet the wines show remarkable maturity of style. Now at 18 years of age, this Chapelle-Chambertin has evolved beautifully, showing tertiary complexity while retaining excellent fruit and structure. The vintage’s natural elegance perfectly complements Cécile’s refined winemaking approach.
Tasting Experience
- Visual: Medium garnet with attractive brick-orange highlights reflecting graceful evolution
- Nose: Complex bouquet of red cherry, wild strawberry, and dried rose petal interlaced with forest floor, truffle, and sweet spice. Secondary notes of tea leaf, sandalwood, and subtle game emerge with air. The wine’s purity and terroir expression are immediately apparent
- Palate: Silky, refined texture with beautifully integrated tannins and vibrant acidity. Flavors of red fruit, earth, and mineral unfold with grace and complexity. The Grand Cru’s limestone backbone provides structure while Cécile’s minimal intervention allows the terroir to speak clearly
- Finish: Long, elegant finish with persistent minerality, subtle fruit echoes, and fine-grained tannins. The wine’s breeding and purity shine through in the refined, ethereal conclusion
Service & Food Pairing
Serve at 16-17°C (61-63°F) in large Burgundy stems. Decant for 45-60 minutes to allow the mature aromatics to fully express themselves. This evolved wine benefits from gentle aeration.
Exceptional pairings:
- Roasted guinea fowl with autumn truffle and root vegetables
- Wild hare à la royale with dark chocolate notes
- Beef tenderloin with morel cream sauce
- Selection of aged Burgundian cheeses including Époisses, Langres, and aged Comté
- Duck breast with cherry and thyme reduction
Cellaring & Evolution
Drinking beautifully now (2024-2030) at full maturity. The 2006’s structure and Cécile’s precise winemaking have allowed the wine to age gracefully. While it has excellent drinking pleasure today, it will hold well for another 5-8 years. Store in a cool, dark cellar at 12-14°C with 70% humidity.
Collector’s Note: Cécile Tremblay’s wines are among the most sought-after in modern Burgundy, with production so limited that they rarely reach the open market. This 2006 Chapelle-Chambertin represents a rare opportunity to acquire a fully mature Grand Cru from one of the region’s most talented winemakers. At €1,200, it reflects both the wine’s quality and the extreme rarity of Cécile’s production. A must for serious Burgundy collectors.
