ROBERT PARKER “The 2016 Volnay 1er Cru Taillepieds is 100% whole cluster and 30% new oak. This vineyard was not affected by the frost. It has a very intense blackberry and Morello cherry-scented bouquet with hints of iodine and incense developing with time. I adore the controlled opulence here. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin but less rigid than the Mitans, with a touch of salinity, a light marine influence toward the finish. This has very good potential, but it will reward those with patience to cellar 4 or 5 years.”

Description Overview
From the illustrious cellars of Domaine de Montille, the Les Taillepieds Volnay 1er Cru 2016 is an exceptional expression of Burgundian terroir. Crafted in the acclaimed 2016 vintage, renowned for its balance and depth, this premier cru wine epitomizes the heritage and exclusivity of the Côte de Beaune region. With fewer than limited annual production bottles, it remains a coveted collector’s gem and a compelling investment-grade acquisition that promises both refined tasting pleasure and potential value appreciation.
Key Features & Benefits
Meticulously vinified using traditional Burgundian methods, the grapes for Les Taillepieds are hand-harvested from carefully tended vines that thrive on the region’s unique clay-limestone slopes. The result is a wine of extraordinary finesse, combining purity of fruit with nuanced minerality.
Aging in French oak barrels for 18 months enhances its complexity without overpowering its elegant structure. Compared to similar premier crus, this bottling offers heightened aromatic intensity and a silky mouthfeel, making it highly desirable for discerning collectors who value both scarcity and superior craftsmanship.

Heritage & Collectibility
Domaine de Montille, a name synonymous with wine excellence since the early 18th century, has long been celebrated for crafting terroir-driven wines that capture Burgundy’s essence. The 2016 Les Taillepieds, limited in quantity, perfectly demonstrates the estate’s dedication to quality and tradition.
Given the steadily rising demand for Volnay premier crus among investors, this wine stands as a prudent long-term asset, with historical price trends underscoring its robust market position and sustained collector appeal.
Sensory Profile & Usage
This 2016 Volnay 1er Cru opens with an inviting bouquet of ripe red cherries, subtle violet, and spices, revealing layers of earthiness and delicate cedar. On the palate, it delivers a graceful balance of vibrant acidity, silky tannins, and a lingering finish marked by hints of toasted hazelnuts.
Ideal when served at 16 to 18°C, savor it alongside fine roast duck or mushroom risotto to elevate your tasting experience. Proper cellaring in a stable, cool environment will further unlock its evolving complexity, rewarding enthusiasts with each successive year.
