ROBERT PARKER “Tasted at the Mouton-Rothschild vertical in London, the 2012 Mouton-Rothschild clearly has the upper hand over the 2011, if not quite at the level of the 2009, 2010 and what I envisage will be the 2015. There is obviously greater fruit intensity here, as if the contrast has been dialed up a couple of notches. It is quite showy on the nose, preening in its infancy with pure black cherries, graphite and hints of cold slate-like scents, later that hint of seaweed I observed when tasted blind a few months earlier. The palate is beautifully balanced with great vim and vigor. This is a Mouton that will not be put down – vivacious, vivid and delineated with wonderful focus and crucially, impressive persistence on the finish. Do not underestimate this Mouton-Rothschild, because I can see an upswing as it matures in bottle. Tasted April 2016. Neal Martin. WA”

Chateau Mouton Rothschild 2012 vintage wine bottle

Exceptional 2012 Vintage

Discover the exceptional 2012 vintage of Château Mouton Rothschild, a distinguished Bordeaux classified as a First Growth in the prestigious Pauillac region. This exclusive release is celebrated for its remarkable balance between power and elegance, reflecting the vintage’s climatic excellence. Renowned worldwide, this vintage holds both collectible allure and investment-grade potential, especially within its original wooden case (OWC6), enhancing its rarity.

Crafted with Precision

Crafted with meticulous precision, Château Mouton Rothschild 2012 blends 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc, sourced from meticulously tended vineyards aged around 40 years. The wine undergoes traditional vinification, followed by 18–20 months maturation in new French oak barrels, imparting complex tannins and refined structure.

This process yields an intense, yet elegant profile distinguishing it from other First Growths. For collectors, the original wooden case (OWC6) serves as both a protective vessel and a symbol of provenance, enhancing long-term value and display appeal.

Heritage & Collectibility

Château Mouton Rothschild’s legacy dates back over two centuries, cementing its status as a symbol of Bordeaux’s elite wine craftsmanship. The 2012 vintage, though limited in production, upholds the estate’s tradition of excellence and innovation, famously known for its artist-designed labels—this year’s by Spanish artist Miquel Barceló.

Market demand for this vintage remains strong, with auction results underscoring its investment-grade status. Owning this bottle means embracing a storied heritage imbued with artistry and scarcity, making it a prized asset for discerning collectors.

Sensory Profile & Tasting

Experience a layered aromatic profile with expressive notes of blackcurrant, cedar, and hints of tobacco, evolving into a complex palate featuring dark cherry, graphite, and subtle spice. The velvety tannins give way to a prolonged, elegant finish accented by mineral undertones.

For optimal enjoyment, decant for at least an hour and serve at 16–18°C. Store horizontally in a controlled cellar environment around 13°C with 60–70% humidity. Pair this refined Bordeaux with rich dishes such as roast lamb, wild game, or aged cheeses to elevate your dining experience.
