ROBERT PARKER ” The mineral-laced 2005 Haut Brion (56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc) is exquisite. With its elegance and finesse, it is not as powerful as La Mission, but the nobility and complexity of the aromatics, incredible fragrance (subtle smoke and blue, red, and black fruits) that persists in the glass, full-bodied mouthfeel (though very light and delicate on its feet), and incredible length characterize this great Haut-Brion. It is just starting to drink well, and should continue to do so for at least another three decades. It is a tour de force in winemaking, but only 9,000 cases were produced. “
Chateau Haut-Brion 2005 3L
A Monument of Bordeaux Excellence

Overview
The Chateau Haut-Brion 2005 3L is a majestic embodiment of winemaking artistry, a testament to the legendary 2005 vintage in Bordeaux, and a crown jewel for any serious wine collection. This Premier Grand Cru Classé from Pessac-Léognan, presented in a rare double magnum (3L) format, offers not only an unparalleled tasting experience but also represents a significant investment opportunity. Its impeccable pedigree, combined with the exceptional quality of the 2005 vintage, makes this Haut-Brion a highly sought-after collectible. The large format further enhances its aging potential, promising decades of graceful evolution.
Key Features & Benefits
This 2005 Haut-Brion showcases the quintessential characteristics of its esteemed terroir. The meticulous blend, primarily comprising Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc, benefits from the unique gravelly soil of the Graves region, imparting a signature minerality and complexity. The 3L format is crucial, offering a slower, more nuanced aging process compared to standard bottles. This is due to the lower ratio of wine exposed to oxygen, preserving the wine’s vibrancy and extending its lifespan significantly.
The wine was crafted using traditional methods, with careful attention to detail at every stage, from hand-harvesting to fermentation and aging in French oak barrels.

Heritage & Collectibility
Chateau Haut-Brion boasts a history dating back centuries, holding the distinction of being the only estate outside the Médoc to be included in the original 1855 Classification as a Premier Grand Cru Classé. This legacy of excellence is further amplified by the extraordinary 2005 vintage, widely considered one of the greatest in Bordeaux history. The combination of perfect weather conditions and Haut-Brion’s unparalleled winemaking expertise resulted in a wine of exceptional depth, concentration, and longevity.
The rarity of the 2005 Haut-Brion in the 3L format dramatically increases its collectibility, making it a prized possession for discerning collectors and a sound investment wine. This double magnum is more than just wine; it’s a piece of history.
Sensory Profile & Usage
The Chateau Haut-Brion 2005 presents a profound aromatic bouquet, unfolding layers of blackcurrant, black cherry, tobacco, cedar, and subtle earthy notes characteristic of Pessac-Leognan. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and remarkably structured, with velvety tannins and a seemingly endless finish. The exceptional concentration and balance ensure that this wine will continue to evolve beautifully for decades to come.
For optimal enjoyment, store this Bordeaux 2005 in a temperature and humidity-controlled cellar. We recommend decanting for at least 2-3 hours before serving at around 18°C (64°F). This will allow the wine to fully express its aromatic complexity and soften its tannins.
