ROBERT PARKER ” The mineral-laced 2005 Haut Brion (56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc) is exquisite. With its elegance and finesse, it is not as powerful as La Mission, but the nobility and complexity of the aromatics, incredible fragrance (subtle smoke and blue, red, and black fruits) that persists in the glass, full-bodied mouthfeel (though very light and delicate on its feet), and incredible length characterize this great Haut-Brion. It is just starting to drink well, and should continue to do so for at least another three decades. It is a tour de force in winemaking, but only 9,000 cases were produced. “

A Pinnacle of Bordeaux Excellence
Overview
The Chateau Haut-Brion 2005 stands as a testament to the unparalleled legacy of this First Growth estate and the extraordinary quality of the 2005 vintage in Bordeaux. As one of only five Premier Grand Cru Classé estates in the 1855 Classification, and the only one from Graves, Haut-Brion consistently produces wines of exceptional depth, complexity, and longevity. This 2005 vintage, in particular, is celebrated as one of the greatest in recent history, making it a highly sought-after treasure for discerning collectors and a cornerstone of any serious wine investment portfolio. Its exquisite balance, profound aromatics, and remarkable aging potential solidify its place among the world’s most coveted wines.
Key Features & Benefits
The 2005 Haut-Brion is a masterful blend dominated by Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc, reflecting the unique gravelly terroir of Pessac-Léognan. The 2005 vintage benefited from ideal weather conditions, with a warm, dry summer leading to perfectly ripe grapes with concentrated flavors and refined tannins. Haut-Brion’s meticulous winemaking techniques, including hand-harvesting, careful selection, and aging in French oak barrels (a significant portion of which are new), contribute to the wine’s exceptional structure and finesse.
This meticulous process allows the character of the Pessac-Léognan 2005 terroir to shine through.

Heritage & Collectibility
Chateau Haut-Brion boasts a history stretching back centuries, with evidence of viticulture on the estate dating back to the 1st Century AD. Its inclusion as a First Growth Bordeaux 2005 in the 1855 Classification is a testament to its consistent quality and prestige. The 2005 vintage, widely acclaimed by critics, has further enhanced the collectibility of this iconic wine.
Its rarity and exceptional aging potential make it a prized possession for collectors and a valuable asset for investors. The enduring legacy and consistent acclaim make any bottle of Premier Grand Cru Classé 2005 a significant acquisition.
Sensory Profile & Usage
The Chateau Haut-Brion 2005 presents a complex bouquet of aromas, including ripe blackcurrant, black cherry, cedar, tobacco, and subtle earthy notes, characteristic of the finest Graves Red Wine 2005. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a remarkable depth of flavor. Layers of fruit, spice, and mineral notes unfold, leading to an incredibly long and elegant finish.
For optimal enjoyment, cellar this wine under ideal conditions (consistent temperature and humidity) for at least 10-15 years, although it will continue to evolve and improve for decades. Decant for several hours before serving at around 18°C (64°F) to allow the aromas and flavors to fully express themselves. This magnificent wine pairs exquisitely with classic dishes such as roasted lamb, beef tenderloin, game birds, and aged hard cheeses.
