ROBERT PARKER ” The mineral-laced 2005 Haut Brion (56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 39% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc) is exquisite. With its elegance and finesse, it is not as powerful as La Mission, but the nobility and complexity of the aromatics, incredible fragrance (subtle smoke and blue, red, and black fruits) that persists in the glass, full-bodied mouthfeel (though very light and delicate on its feet), and incredible length characterize this great Haut-Brion. It is just starting to drink well, and should continue to do so for at least another three decades. It is a tour de force in winemaking, but only 9,000 cases were produced. “

Overview

The Chateau Haut-Brion 2005, presented here in a rare 0.375L half-bottle, is a paragon of vinous excellence, representing the pinnacle of winemaking from the esteemed Pessac-Léognan appellation. As a Premier Grand Cru Classé, a title held since the original 1855 Bordeaux classification, Haut-Brion stands as a testament to centuries of unparalleled craftsmanship. The 2005 vintage, universally lauded as exceptional across Bordeaux, adds a significant layer of desirability and investment potential to this already iconic wine. Key Features & Benefits

This *Graves Red Wine 2005* is a masterful blend dominated by Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc, meticulously crafted from grapes grown on Haut-Brion’s unique gravelly terroir. This specific soil composition, combined with the estate’s meticulous vineyard management, contributes to the wine’s signature complexity, depth, and elegance.

The 2005 growing season was characterized by ideal conditions – a warm, dry summer followed by a perfect harvest – resulting in grapes of exceptional ripeness and concentration. The wine underwent fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by aging in new French oak barrels, further enhancing its structure and aromatic profile.

Heritage & Collectibility

Chateau Haut-Brion boasts a history that few estates can match. It is the oldest of Bordeaux’s five First Growths, with a legacy of producing wines of exceptional quality dating back to the 16th century. Its inclusion in the 1855 classification as a *Premier Grand Cru Classé 2005* solidified its place among the world’s most prestigious wines.

The 2005 vintage, in particular, has achieved near-mythical status, earning perfect or near-perfect scores from leading critics. This *Chateau Haut-Brion 2005*, especially in the half-bottle format, is a rare and highly sought-after collectible, destined to appreciate in value over time. It is therefore also viewed as a powerful *investment wine*.

Sensory Profile & Usage

The *Pessac-Léognan 2005* offers a captivating sensory experience. On the nose, it reveals a complex bouquet of blackcurrant, plum, cedar, tobacco, and subtle earthy notes, intertwined with hints of vanilla and spice from the oak aging. The palate is full-bodied, rich, and remarkably concentrated, with velvety tannins and a seemingly endless finish.

While approachable now, this wine possesses incredible aging potential and will continue to evolve and develop for decades to come. For optimal enjoyment, decant for at least two hours before serving at 16-18°C (60-64°F). Store this precious half-bottle in a cool, dark, and humid cellar, ideally at a constant temperature of 13°C (55°F). It pairs exquisitely with roasted red meats, game, mature cheeses, and dishes featuring truffles.
